Video Junkyard Podcast

Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

Come along with us as we shrink ourselves for a ride through Martin Short's body.  That's right it's the 1987 sci-fi comedy "InnerSpace" starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan.  Remember this one where Quaid spends most of the movie drinking and sawing tiny holes in Short's internal organs.  That's not a great synopsis but neither was the one on the back of the DVD box, so there.

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast, we take a look through time and space at the 1985 sci-fi comedy "My Science Project" written and directed by Jonathan R. Betuel and starring John Stockwell, Fisher Stevens, and Dennis Hopper. When high school senior and gearhead Michael Harlan needs a science project to graduate, he sneaks into a junkyard at a military base (you know, like ya do...) and discovers an extraterrestrial engine that can manipulate time (and space). When the device starts opening portals around town, Michael and his friends must race against time (and space) to stop the onslaught of creatures out of time (and space)...you get the idea.
Released against other sci-fi films like Back to the Future, does this one hold up well, or does it belong back in the junkyard? Check out this weeks episde of the Video Junkyard Podcast to find out!

VJP EP 192 Evolution

Friday Mar 18, 2022

Friday Mar 18, 2022

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast we continue our exploration into offbeat/misfit/team-up/sci-fi/comedy films that are kinda/sorta like Ghostbusters, or "Does it Ghostbust?" with an entry from The Man himself, Mr. Ivan Reitman. On Episode 192 we discuss Evolution (2001) starring David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Sean William Scott, and Julianne Moore. When a meteor crashes in Arizona and oozes out a form of rapidly-evolving alien life, its up to two community college professors, a government doctor, and a firefighter flunky to stop the extraterrestrial menace before it takes over the world!
Sound familiar?
Kinda/sorta, right?
