Video Junkyard Podcast

Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

The third and final installment in our Mini Monster Marathon has us digging deep into the junkyard to find 'Munchies' (1987). This was another childhood favorite but does it stand the test of time likes it's predecessors or should it remain buried like the titular creatures.

This is the second in the series and the second of this year's listener picks. Thanks to Madison Smith for recommending Critters. SPOILERS: It's an old favorite and we love it. Always a pleasure to re-watch this one.

This week we once again welcome artist Ryan Steiskal to talk about 90s religious thriller 'The Prophecy'. This was quite a popular film in it's day and spawned 4 sequels but is it really the film we remember?

This week we take a look at "Jacob's Ladder". This film had a major effect on us when we saw it years ago but is it still an effective thriller or has it aged out of relevance? A recent remake has us interested in what modern audiences see in this classic from the 90s. Artist Ryan Steiskal joins us to discuss this old favorite.

This week we take a look at a more recent vision of futuristic warfare. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in Edge of Tomorrow. This one came out to pretty positive reviews but faded quickly into obscurity. Listen and see if we thought it was worth the time and the $5 in the Bargain Bin.

This week in the Junkyard we take a look at the 1997 adaptation of classic science fiction novel Starship Troopers. Directed by Paul Verhoven the film admittedly used a very different tone than the novel but it did it work out for the better? Let's see what we can make of this once popular but mostly forgotten late 90s sci-fi action affair.
What do you think of Starship Troopers? Send us your review and we will gladly include it in the show. E-mail us at VideoJunkyardPodcast@gmail.com
