Video Junkyard Podcast

Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast we look back on the early career of Mike Myers of "Austin Powers" fame with the 1993 comedy "So I Married An Axe Murderer" with Nancy Travis, Anthony LaPaglia, and more. Director Thomas Schlamme introduces us to beat poet Charlie (Myers) who constantly self-sabotages his relationships out of a fear of commitment until he meets Harriet (Travis) who seems to good to be true! So is this 90's romcom still side-splitting, or has its edge dulled over the years? We're trapped in a video store in 1997 and we have to figure out a way to make it through the sci-fi thriller Cube. Once upon a time Charles Band (Empire Pictures, Full Moon Entertainment) had the rights to make a film adaptation of Marvel Comics "Doctor Strange" but before they could get the film into production the rights agreement had expired leaving Band and his father Albert [Band] with a problem. What to do? Do a short re-write and change some of the names and get the movie made. The result is... Doctor Mordrid starring (watch out Benedict Cumberbatch)the great Jeffery Combs. Watch it for FREE on Tubi and listen to the guys discuss this straight-to-video "classic".

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast, Erik and Joe check out another Frank Henenlotter film about a guy who lives with a small creature. This time it's the 1988 comedy horror film Brain Damage! The movie stars Rick Hearst as Brian, a young man who finds himself suddenly addicted to the highly hallucinogenic blue liquid that is injected directly into his brain by an ancient crooning carnivorous eel-like leech named Aylmer.
Yeah... another one of those....
So does Brain Damage still bring that euphoric feeling, or is it DOA?
Check out the movie for FREE on TubiTV.com and then tune in for the discussion on the Video Junkyard Podcast!
