Video Junkyard Podcast
Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

It's week two of the David Cronenberg takeover and this week we take a trip, in our very own stretch limousine, to check out the 2012 film "Cosmopolis". Robert Pattinson stars in this cerebral critique of modern life that was scripted and directed by Mr. Cronenberg. This is a heavy trip of a movie and if you made it through to the other side tune in and see what we made of all of it.

This week is the start of our two-part series featuring films by the one and only David Cronenberg. This 1983 thriller is based on a book by Stephen King and stars Christopher Walken as the reluctant hero and psychic Johnny Smith. Does this one still hold thrills and chills for the modern viewer or is the film a Dead Zone in Cronenberg's filmography? Come have a listen.

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast Ryan, Erik, and Joe are HOUSEBOUND (2014)! Directed by Gerard Johnstone and starring Morgana O'Reilly, Rima Te Waita, and Glen-Paul Waru, Housebound follows Kylie (O'Reilly) who is forced to return to her childhood home after being placed under house arrest, where she suspects that something evil may be lurking. This relatively new release for the podcast is one of the latest addition to the growing catalog of horror-comedies from New Zealand. Is this one laughs and screams for all the wrong reasons? Check out the film on TubiTV.com then join us for the review on the Video Junkyard Podcast!

This week we discuss the Italian-American post-apocalyptic motorcycle gang movie "1990: The Bronx Warriors". It's one part "Escape From New York" and one part "The Warriors" but do those delicious ingredients add up to a satisfying hybrid or does this post-nuke mutation need to stay lost in the 80s where we found it? Watch the movie on Tubi and then listen in as we talk Trash about "1990: The Bronx Warriors".

This week we watched "The Guyver". This was truly a courageous instance of our old moniker... "We watched it, so you don't have to" mostly because it's not available in the streaming format (our apologies, it used to be on Tubi) and also because you honestly should avoid this movie like it were a piece of invasive biotech. Press play now to hear us discuss "The Guyver" and if you're a fan please shoot us a message and tell us why.

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast, Erik and Joe (and an annoying cricket) review the 1996 American action film "The Long Kiss Goodnight" starring Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Renny Harlin. Samantha (Davis) has had amnesia for eight years but has started a new life with her family in a small town. But when her past comes back to find her, it triggers her persona as an assassin and spy to kick in and uncovers a deep conspiracy. While certainly covering all of the familiar tropes of 90s action films, does this flick bring back good memories, or is it just firing blanks? Check out the movie for free on TubiTV.com then join is for the discussion on the Video Junkyard Podcast!

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast we take a look at yet another exploitation gem from Frank Henenlotter - 1990's "Frankenhooker" starring James Lorinz, Patty Mullen, and Louise Lasser. When Elizabeth Shelley (Mullen) is killed in a freak accident, her fiancé and armchair surgeon/mad scientist Jeffery Franken (Lorinz)reassembles her with the remains of a number of sex workers dispatched by explosive "super crack".
We aren't even kidding.
But does this bizarre cult classic have more to say in this hilarious update of Mary Shelley's horror classic? Or is it just spare parts? Check out the film on Shudder then join us for the latest episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast!

This week Erik and Ryan brush up on their Russian and take a look at the "first-ever" Soviet horror film "Viy". This is a tale of devils and witchcraft steeped in Russian folk tales. Does this 1967 classic warrant a re-watch or should it be left in the past with the world it takes place in? Check out the movie for free on Tubi and then join us for the discussion and bring along with a warm bottle of straight vodka. You might need it.
