Video Junkyard Podcast
Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast we take a trip to Arrakis, ride some worms, and load up on spice! No, not the impressively atmospheric 2021 Denis Villeneuve film based on the legendary Frank Herbert book... We are talking about the confusing and oddly-paced 1984 film "Dune" directly by David Lynch (for some reason). While this version definitely has the Video Junkyard Podcast Seal of Bold Creative Decisions, is it really as bad as everyone says? Really? Is it? Check out the episode to find out!

One our next Halloween outing for the Video Junkyard Podcast we take a look back at the 1987 comedy/horror film "The Monster Squad". Written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker (and directed by Dekker), Monster Squad tells the story of a quinessential 80's kids' "Monster Club" that finds their favorite monsters from filmland assembling in their home town to (naturally) take over the world! Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and the Gillman are all here in the cult classic! But how does The Monster Squad hold up among other all-star monster outings? Check out the second entry in our Video Junkyard Podcast Halloween Series to find out!

This week we revisit the 2004 Action-Horror epic "Van Helsing". Hugh (Wolverine) Jackman stars as the titular vampire hunter in the actioned-up mess of a movie. Check this one out on Peacock TV and then join us as we discuss the merits, if any, of this new take on the classic Universal Monsters.

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast we revisit the 1996 filmmaking train wreck that is "The Island of Dr. Moreau"! Originally envisioned by director Richard Stanley, the film stars Marlon Brando (in one of his weirdest performances ever), Val Kilmer (just out of Batman's cowl), and an incredibly wasted David Thewlis and Fairuza Balk. Based on the classic tale by H.G. Wells of a mad scientists on a remote island who has created animal/human hybrids, the behind-the-scenes drama (like removing Stanley as director a week into shooting and replacing him with John Frankenheimer) almost improve and parallel the bizarreness on the screen. So join us for the discussion of one of the strangest stories out of 1990s Hollywood on the latest episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast!
