Video Junkyard Podcast

Do you ever get a flash of a memory of a movie you saw as a child, but can’t remember the name? Perhaps you caught it on TV while staying up later than you should have. Or maybe you never saw it, but you recognize the cover art from the neighborhood video store around the block. At the Video Junkyard, we dig up these forgotten films and franchises and see if they still hold up in the digital age. Hosts Erik Gulbrandsen, Joe Peterson and Ryan Steiskal will look at the best, the worst, and the best of the worst.

This week, we are concluding the Podcast's Consensual Fish Love Valentine double-feature with 1984's "Splash", a Ron Howard film, starting Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, and John Candy. Once again, the Junkyard Boys have to explore the forbidding love between man and anthropomorphized marine life, but this time through the murky gaze of an early 80's male lead with commitment issues; tackling serious questions like: How many "fish out of water" jokes can a viewer endure? Can we love a sleazy John Candy? And most importantly, What exactly are the logistics of one having sex on top of a fridge in this CURSED HELL OF A WORLD?!
Please, join us in discussing this NON-Oscar winning film by sending us your fishy feedback on this or any of our episodes to videojunkyardpodcast@gmail.com or on Twitter: @VIdeoJunkPod. Hope to hear from you!

This week we dig back into the sordid past of comic book adaptations. As I'm sure you know, the results have always been mixed. Our subject in question is the 2005 feature film "Constantine" starring Keanu Reeves as the titular John Constantine of "Hellblazer" fame. This was a controversial film upon it's release and fans of the DC/Vertigo graphic novels didn't really connect with it but is it worth another look. Come along with us on a little visit to hell with Keanu and company.

This week we give a Video Junkyard farewell to the great talent of Betty White in the only way we can, by watching Lake Placid! The 1999 Giant Croc movie has a stellar cast but the feature is of course Ms. White's foul mother Mrs. Bickerman, mother of Giant Crocs. Re-visit this classic with us and help us send off a true legend, Betty White.

This week on the Video Junkyard Podcast we take a look at the 2013 American supernatural mystery thriller "Odd Thomas". Starring Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin, Willem Dafoe, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, this adaptation of the successful Dean Koontz novel series tells of supernatural detective/fry cook Odd Thomas who (using his own tagline) can see dead people and then "by God, does something about it". With a plot that twists and turns and a tone that weaves between comedy, drama, and supernatural thriller, "Odd Thomas" definitely lives up to its name. But is it good? Check out the film on TubiTV or Amazon Prime, then join us on the Video Junkyard Podcast for the review!

Yep. We did it. We watched Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigalo. Come and hear us talk about this forgettable time capsule starring Rob Schneider as a fish tank cleaner who stumbles into a new career as a low rent male prostitute. If you haven't seen it... well maybe have a listen before you run out to track down a copy. Either way join us as we discuss sex comedies, the late 90s, and the entire Happy Madison Schneider-verse. We'd say you won't regret it but no promises.
